Are the best keys, no question about it.
Until you break it and have to pay for the replacement with your first-born child. Then a traditional key would be better.
I can tell you one thing, I've never been so entertained by a car key.

I like my proximity key. Stays in my pocket.

They're also good for giving randoms heart attacks. You just hit the button, and scare the shit out of some grandma who thinks you're robbing her.

Hours of fun with those keys. Hours.

When I sold my Kia Soul, I kept one of the switchblade keys. I'm going to be really bummed out when the switchblade mechanism finally breaks.

Somehow I'm still using the original key that came with the Safari, it hasn't broken yet.
Of course, now that I said that it'll break in the ignition tomorrow, and I'll be using a Lowes replacement key after that.

I love them. beats spinning them around a lanyard or their rings.

Why not get a new key blank from the dealer? I had problems with the aftermarket ones wearing out or breaking real easy, so went to Subaru and bought a standard blank and got it cut.
Now i've got the proper black top key and not only does it feel more robust it only cost a few dollars more

The best keys aren't keys at all, they're "emotion control units". (This crystal key costs over $2,000 to replace.)

My VW key.. I scared the crap out of some guy in Starbucks with it XD

Switchblade keys are the tits, but I think Porsche made the best key ever for the Panamera.

mine has a secret key hiding inside.

Psh, that probably for remote start, a $5,000 option approximately.

I dunno, I've never been on a plane.

I was wondering where the emergency key on Ford's proximity key was.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 17:33 |

I still have the original as well. I figured a few extra's wouldn't hurt to have though. The new one's have a plastic piece on the handle(?), and the original doesn't, so I keep the original in my wallet as a backup.

I didn't feel like taking mine apart, just grabbed it from Google. Looks like a pain in the ass. My Mitsubishi's emergency key slid out of the fob easily.

Pah! say that to all the 90's VAG products with their perfectly switching keys!

HAH! Mine costs 2.50 after tax at Home Depot. Sadly its the only place that carries my model of key and is not very close to my house. Its a good 15 minute drive to my nearest Home Depot
![]() 01/11/2015 at 17:55 |
|
You silly city folk and your "long distances"! I used to live 25 minutes away... from Starbucks! I still live 20 minutes away, and have never been. But I could have gotten a key for 1.50 but I wanted a plastic end.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 17:58 |

I'm actually not in the city, I'm in the suburbs. Its just annoying to get there because the only route is by highway then very busy street. Its not exactly and easy trip. BTW, my key from home depot has a plastic end. I had the original key, It was nearly completely worn down. The guy that cut the new key was a magician, He restored it completely. I have no idea how he did it

Model S has the best automotive key.

Ah, I hate being in the city. I hate the traffic. And pretty much everything about the city.

They're pretty durable. My sis-in-law has one for her Passat and it handles all the abuse I can dish.

Mine will randomly open in my pocket. However, I'll take that over being stabbed by my previous (long time ago) Honda key...

yup!
Got to play with one of these last weekend...

Am I the only one that misses reasonably-sized keys? I like the benefits of remote locking, but I'd much rather have a key ring that would fit in my pocket or even, gasp, lie flat on a table.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 18:43 |
|
Our other cars have "reasonably sized" keys with a remote. The whole key and remote in one thing is so much better. And it fits in my pocket.

![]() 01/11/2015 at 18:56 |

Yeah, I mean mine does fit and everything, I just get irritated about how it has to stick out at an angle on my ring. I hate the separate remote thing, that is the tackiest. I'm referring to old school keys without any remote stuff.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 18:56 |

Me too. I'm glad I dont have a switchblade key, I'd be ADDing all over it

I got yelled at for spinning my house key around in class one day...
![]() 01/11/2015 at 19:00 |

I like the city (kind of), But the only route from my house to Home Depot is just incredibly, stupidly annoying

I like looking at nature, instead of buildings. Not flat, swampy nature that is. That is one huge reason I can't stand Florida.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 19:07 |

I can actually appreciate both the city scape and the landscape. I enjoy driving through Downtown Denver just as much as canyon carving the rockies, which I finally did recently and it was amazing. But driving through the suburbs is just plain boring
![]() 01/11/2015 at 19:23 |

My gf and I use her key to pretend like its a switch blade and stab at each other. We also shoot each other with nerf guns

They certainly try.

My father, brother and I pretty much have done the same it to the Jetta's key for about 10 years now.

Dunno, I was bored, and was just spinning my lanyard around. Worth noting I'm a junior in HS and we get yelled at for a lot of stupid stuff.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 20:07 |

did that stuff all the time, never got yelled at for some reason.
